FOUNDATION ROOT BARRIER INSTALLATION
WATER BARRIER FOR FOUNDATIONS
Foundation Tree Root Barrier / Biobarrier Foundation Protection
Protect your foundation, driveways, and patios from up-lifting and cracking due to tree roots with Biobarrier. Biobarrier comes in a soft pliable roll that is superior to other hard metal or plastic root barriers.
EARTH IDEAS OUTDOORS specializes in protecting your home by installing tree Root Barriers & Water Barriers. It’s never too early or late to protect your home from new or old tree roots. Bio barrier is safe for trees and emits a slow-release gas that prevents tree root cells from dividing or growing. Roots will stop growing or turn away in another direction.

Trees are a major part of your landscaping and add beauty to your community. However, HOA’s usually require a homeowner to have 2 trees planted in their front yard which are the wrong type of tree and will cause the homeowner problems in-the-future.
Foundation Cracks Related to Tree Roots
Tree roots are hard to predict where they will grow, but if near your foundation, chances are they will grow straight to it. A healthy foundation requires equal moisture around the entire foundation for support. Tree roots will wick moisture away from that area of your foundation causing that area to drop and crack.
Earth Ideas often recommends that a Water Barrier also be installed next to the Root Barrier to insure that the cut tree roots do not wick water through the Biobarrior and away from under your foundation.
- Biobarriers are made of a durable, non-woven, polypropylene geotextile fabric with permanently attached nodules containing trifluralin. Trifluralin prevents root tip cells from dividing, which is the method by which roots grow. The nodules are engineered to slowly release the trifluralin, creating a zone where root growth is inhibited. The geotextile fabric is porous to allow air, nutrients and water through it so that soil hydrology can continue to be healthy.
Characteristics: For more than 30 years, trifluralin has been used between rows of food crops to prevent weed growth; because of this extensive use and numerous research projects, much is known about it. It has an EPA toxicity rating of class IV, the “practically nontoxic” class (acute oral: LD50, (rats) > 10,000 mg/kg), making it slightly more toxic than sugar but less than salt. Trifluralin has an extremely low water solubility of 0.3 ppm, making it unlikely to leach. It tightly attaches to soil, so it does not tend to migrate, and it decomposes in six months or less, so it does not persist in the ground.
